Hemospectrum terms
Trolls are taught these from a young age, both explicitly (through schoolfeeding) and implicitly (through societal stereotypes). Anyone who doesn't know the hemospectrum basics can struggle to understand and survive around trolls.
Hemospectrum: Troll blood color, which traditionally goes from one end of the rainbow to the other. Can be judged based on the blood caste system. During daily life, trolls tend to show the color of their blood through clothing, accessories, and even text colors.Blood Caste System: Troll systemic separation based on one's blood color, which traditionally goes from one end of the rainbow to the other. The Empire assigns each troll a symbol based on their blood color, both of which they're expected to wear. Lowest to highest hemocastes are
Rust, Bronze, Gold, Olive, Jade, Teal, Cerulean, Indigo, Purple, Violet, Fuchsia.
Lowblood: Lowest castes of the hemospectrum. Stereotyped as blunt, soft, weak, poor, and crafty. Includes Rust, Bronze, Gold, Olive.Midblood: Obscure term for castes in the middle of the spectrum - may identify more as lowblood or highblood depending on their spectrum position. Neither well-off NOR struggling, as long as they do as the Empire tells them. Still quite intimidating to lower castes. Includes Jade, Teal, Cerulean.Highblood: Highest castes of the hemospectrum. Stereotyped as classy, hot-tempered, robust, wealthy, and 'cool'. Includes Indigo, Purple, Violet, Fuchsia.Royal hemocastes, given the best of the best, are Violet, Fuchsia.Fuchsia trolls are all Empresses.
They are only chosen for upbringing once the old Heiress has died, thus any newly-hatched fuchsias are culled for no competition. The Empire's ideal number of non-Empress fuchsias on the planet is 0.
Mutant blood: A troll of mutated blood genes, which usually means being culled for (what the Empire sees as) defectiveness. Includes Lime, Cherry-red.
Lime used to be a regular caste among the others, but has been hunted to extinction - thus, any new limeblood can now be effectively treated as a mutant.
Cherry-red is not a caste in itself - it is a Lime caste, its mutation changes the blood appearance rather than caste.
Culling: Government mandated killing. Usually targets those who go against the Alternian Empire, but is predominantly biased against lowbloods & mutants. Enacted for various reasons, from minor kerfuffles with highbloods to rebellion participation.Hemocasteism / Casteism: Systemic oppression that disadvantages lower castes for the benefit of higher castes. The Empire: Troll equivalent of a government. A single fuchsia Heiress rules over it. The Empire reigns above all regions of the planet, and no troll (aside from the Empress) is above its word. They made it so that no adult troll can stay on Alternia, as all adults are enlisted to do their empirical duties off-planet. The Empire will not stop in their conquest of other planets. Nonetheless, rebels try.

Going one step further, using these can keep you 'hip' with the younger trolls. Aside from the derogatory slurs.

BEFORAN TERMS
While many terms on these lists refer to Alternian experiences, others are shared with Beforan experiences. That is why, despite the majority of onlookers wanting to know about Alternia, it is also worth explaining Beforus.
Beforus: An alternate version of Alternia, in which the hemospectrum stereotypes are somewhat inverted. Lowblood/mutant/disabled trolls are pitied on, and 'culling' involves treating other trolls as pets to train.BUOY: Politically correct Beforan term for lowbloods. Even natural-born trolls struggle to understand the quadrant romances.

♥️♠️ QUADRANTS ♣️♦️
The romantic/sexuality system for trolls. In which humans have typically 1 romance (love), trolls have 4 romances (flushed, pitch, ashen, pale).
These 4 romances can additionally be divided into 4 catagories:Red Romance
For positive emotions.
Flushed ♥️ and Pale ♦️
Black Romance
For negative emotions.
Pitch ♠️ and Ashen ♣️
Concupiscent Romance
For reproduction.
Flushed ♥️ and Pitch ♠️
Conciliatory Romance
For quality of life.
Pale ♦️ and Ashen ♣️
.

.
♥️ Matespritship/Flushed ♥️
Matespritship, or the flushed romance quadrant, between trolls involves taking pity on each other. They see the potential harm deep in a flushedmate and feel undeterred due to unconditional love. A troll shows their vulnerabilities with a matesprit in hopes they'll be in safe claws.
- Symbolized by a card suit heart (♥️).
- Associated with the color red.
- Likened to 'human love', except in a society where vulnerability to the wrong person could get you easily culled.

.
♠️ Kismesissitude/Pitch ♠️
Kismesissitude, or the pitch romance quadrant, involves trolls passionately hating to make each other get better. They see the admirable traits deep in a pitchmate and get further annoyed that those traits couldn't be bigger. A troll nudges a kismesis out of the comfort-zone in hopes the challenge is met well.
- Symbolized by a card suit spade (♠️).
- Associated with the color black.
- Likened to 'enemies-to-lovers', except they stay as enemies even when lovers.

.
♣️ Auspisticism/Ashen ♣️
Auspisticism, or the ashen romance quadrant, between trolls changes unhealthy hatred/bloodthirst in a couple by introducing a 3rd person who exasperatedly pacifies their harmful urges. They see the joyous traits in the previous relationship and, despite annoyances, still care enough to prolong it as ashenmates. A troll invites auspisticism to prevent pitch infidelity and (unintentional) harm.
- Symbolized by a card suit clubs (♣️).
- Associated with the color grey.
- Likened to human couple-therapy, except the therapist gets involved and makes it a throuple.

.
♦️ Moirallegience/Pale ♦️
Moirallegience, or the pale romance quadrant, involves two trolls soothing each other's troubled minds. They see their palemate wants a break from chaos and feels pale by chilling with them. A troll shares their problems and feelings with a morail in hopes they'll let go of worries, even for a bit.
- Symbolized by a card suit diamonds (♦️).
- Associated with the color pink.
- Likened to human best friends, except it is romantical in nature.
.

.
VACILLATIONS
This denotes romantic uncertainty; a troll intentionally/unintentionally flipping between multiple romances with the same partner. Uniquely applicable to the troll race's fourfold romance. An integral part of romantic and dramatic fiction, but considered odd in an individual (somewhat similar to non-hetero human romance).
There are various types of vacillations. Often, a troll eventually matches their partner's quadrant feelings, but all cases have varying degrees of success.♥️ Double Reacharound ♠️
One troll is flushed while the other is pitch (or vice versa for other quads). Could be volatile if neither are happy with their partner's quadrant.
♠️♥️ Quadrouple Reacharound ♠️♥️
A commonly known chain of vacillations. Four trolls get involved with one another - two are pitchmates, two are matesprits, and each pitchmate couple has a matesprit with the other pitchmate couple. Very likely to be volatile if so much as one troll flips quadrants, entering an (accidental) infidelity.

FINAL NOTES
"Hate" and "Pity" are not directly the same as human hate and human pity.
Because society raises trolls to be largely independent, deeply caring for another troll can be unfamiliar and dangerous. Flushed pity typically involves 'caring for a troll beyond your previous limits, showing your underbelly despite the possible danger to yourself'.Likewise, since troll society raises trolls to be largely independent, a passionate hate-fueled rivalry can be unexpected. Pitch hatred goes beyond wanting the worst for each other, in fact deciding to stay with each other to see whose life turned better on their deathbeds.Additionally, on Alternia, trolls need flushedmates and pitchmates. If a troll does not get a filial pail filled with reproductive slurry by the time drones come knocking, they will be culled.Troll romances tend to be unstable for this reason. But that's largely due to the Empire's laws. No matter the reason for their origins, bonds of all kinds do exist among trolls and do bring joy to an otherwise difficult planet. These romances unorthodox to the human eye are often, nonetheless, worthwhile.
